1. Describe your role and what it is that you do overall and on a day-to-day basis.
As an Assistant Professor of Accounting, my work combines research, teaching, and engagement with practitioners. On a daily basis, I spend much of my time working on research projects—reading, analyzing data, writing, collaborating, and presenting. I also teach courses in bachelor’s and Executive MBA programs, where I focus on how firms use different disclosure strategies to create shareholder value. Beyond this, I participate in school activities, organize workshops and seminars, and review for academic journals.
2. What is the attraction of doing research?
For me, the greatest attraction of research is the intellectual freedom it offers. You get to ask your own questions and pursue problems that matter to you. In accounting, these often center on how firms make strategic disclosure decisions and how shareholders and stakeholders interpret them. The excitement lies in uncovering new insights that not only advance academic knowledge but also inform standard setters, regulators, and other market participants. Research is also deeply collaborative—you learn so much from working with colleagues who approach the world in different ways.
3. Why did you choose to do your PhD at SSE?
Having studied in the Master’s program at SSE, it was a natural choice once I decided to go for a PhD. As someone new to Sweden, I found SSE to be a place with a rigorous and supportive research environment, an international outlook, and collegial faculty. I particularly appreciated how the PhD program was designed: large enough to provide systematic training, yet flexible enough to allow the development of an individual path. I applied during my first year in the Master’s program and was fortunate to be admitted that same year. Stockholm itself also played a role—studying in a city that combines quality of life, cultural richness, and international openness was very appealing. Looking back, SSE gave me not only the training I needed but also a lifelong network of colleagues and friends that continues to help me grow.
4. Following the time at SSE, do you have any words of wisdom or advice you would like to share with our current students?
Be curious and persistent. Take advantage of the unique environment at SSE: engage with faculty, collaborate with peers, and don’t be afraid to explore new ideas. And most importantly, remember to enjoy the process..
5. What are three words that sum up your time at SSE?
Reflective. Inspiring. Transformative.
