Overview

The Internship course responds to a growing demand for hands-on learning integrated into the more traditional academic training of future management talent. Building on SSE’s uniquely close relationship with the business world, the course bridges students’ transition from academic to professional life and targets students, who are looking to gain qualified positions in their area of interest.

“Our experience with SSE interns has been outstanding. They combine a strong academic foundation with enthusiasm and adaptability, bringing fresh perspectives and real value to our projects. Hosting these talented individuals is not only an opportunity to strengthen our team but also to build lasting relationships with future professionals.”
Elias Porse
Head of ESG Sector Analysis at Nordea.

Course structure

The Internship Course includes a 16-week, part-time internship (20 hours per week) during the fall semester.

  • Internships are unpaid as students receive academic credits.
  • The intern will undertake qualified work related to your organization's current or future operations, supported by a designated supervisor within your team.
  • Working schedule is flexible and agreed jointly between the company and the student to best support your operational needs.
  • Like most junior roles, the internship may include practical tasks such as data entry when relevant, but this should not be the primary focus.
  • Students participate in three mandatory group workshops and three tailored tutorial sessions, and complete an academic essay linked to the internship.

SELECTION AND MATCHING PROCESS

Students must first apply and be accepted into the course. They then apply for internship opportunities that fit their academic profile and professional interests. Partner companies review applications, interview candidates, and rank the students they would like to host.

SSE finalizes placements based on companies’ rankings, candidates’ profiles and application distribution to ensure a suitable and fair match. While we aim to accommodate preferred choices as far as possible, final placements may differ depending on availability and mutual rankings. Please note that participation in the process does not guarantee that an intern will be matched to every company, even though that is our strong ambition. Once students accept the internship offer, they are committed to participating in the course.
