Dilan Ölcer, Senior Economist at Sveriges Riksbank

"The MSc mentor program has improved my understanding of how different goals motivate different people, and how those goals might be different from my own."

What were your reasons for joining the MSc Mentor Program?
When a colleague asked me whether I wanted to become a mentor, I realized that this was the kind of program I would have appreciated during my time at the SSE. Connecting students with professionals is a good way of sharing insights and offering guidance.

What were your expectations of the program?
I hoped to get to know young and ambitious economists and stay up to date with developments in the academic and social programs of SSE.

Has the program met your expectations?
Yes it has. I am very satisfied with the flexibility of the program. My mentees and I have decided together what we want out of the program reflecting their individual needs.

In what way do you think the Msc Mentor Program will influence your professional career?
I hope to keep in touch with my mentees through the years. Who knows what future collaborations might arise from these relationships!

Have you developed and/or improved any personal skills during the program?
The MSc mentor program has improved my understanding of how different goals motivate different people, and how those goals might be different from my own.

Do you have any tips for future mentors/mentees?
I recommend that the mentors carefully tailor their mentorship to their specific mentees. It is also important that the expectations for each meeting are clear.

Please specify any other comments that you would like to share with future participants in the program.
I think this is a very worthwhile program and encourage students and alumni to join it.
