Numbers Talk – new podcast explores the role of accounting

The Accounting and Financial Management Center of Excellence (ACE), part of the Department of Accounting at the Stockholm School of Economics, has launched Numbers Talk – a podcast dedicated to in-depth conversations on accounting and its influence on business and society.

The podcast addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing the finance function today. By engaging researchers, auditors, and practitioners in dialogue, Numbers Talk highlights how accounting numbers – and the professionals behind them – shape decision-making, policy, and the public good.

The host of the podcast is Johan van Geffen, PhD Student in Accounting at SSE. His research explores how investment decisions are made in practice and how they relate to financial theory.

– The idea is to show just how much exciting research is being produced at SSE. For practitioners, researchers at other institutions, or simply curious minds, I hope the podcast offers an accessible and engaging introduction to these topics, says van Geffen.

First episode: Investor relations

The premiere episode features Johan Graaf, Associate Professor at SSE, on the investor relations function – the organizational role that connects a firm’s top management with its capital market counterparts such as analysts and investors. The conversation explores how the profession began, what research has revealed, and the challenges it faces today.

With Numbers Talk, ACE and the Department of Accounting aim to make academic research more accessible and to spark reflection beyond the classroom. The podcast welcomes listeners whether they are commuting, exercising, or simply taking a moment to reflect.
