SSE students visit the University of Cambridge

The course in applied history takes students to Peterhouse College and the Centre for Geopolitics, where they learn about the past from prominent historians.

Last week students from the Stockholm School of Economics visited the University of Cambridge as part of their elective course in applied history. The course, which has been given at SSE since 2020, teaches students to apply historical insights to contemporary challenges.

In Cambridge, the students stayed at Peterhouse College and participated in educational events arranged by the Centre for Geopolitics. Academics from the University of Cambridge, King's College London and Harvard University lectured on topics spanning from the creation of the United Nations to the fall of the Soviet Union.

In May, the student group travels to Washington, D.C. for a visit to the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Upon completion of the course, student essays will be published in an edited anthology. The 2020 and 2021 editions are available in online bookstores.

The course is funded by the Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation for Public Benefit. The Center for Statecraft and Political Communication forms part of the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy together with its partner centers in Cambridge, London and Washington, D.C.
