Sam (Ruiqing) Cao

Sam Ruiqing Cao will be joining the House of Innovation, Fall 2022

Sam Ruiqing Cao is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) at the Department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). She is an economist by training and holds a PhD from Harvard University. Before joining the House of Innovation, she conducted research on digitization as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Business School and the National Bureau of Economic Research (USA). Her work explores how firms, entrepreneurs, and workers channel technological innovation into business value and productivity gains. She is particularly interested in applying quantitative methods to shed light on how organizations and individuals can leverage digital technology to create broad-based benefits.

Her recent work examines organizational complements of machine learning adoption, with a particular focus on technological architecture around the sourcing, processing, and usage of data. She is also an excellent programmer, and leverages technical advances in other fields (e.g., cloud computing, natural language processing, and web scraping) to study management topics around these same tools.
