Xu, Ning

(In the academic year 2023-2024, I am on sabbatical and visiting Questrom School of Business at Boston University as a visiting professor)

I am an Assistant Professor in Organizational Behavior at the Stockholm School of Economics. I received my PhD in Organizational Behavior from the State University of New York (USA), MS in Biomedical Science from Purdue University (USA), and BS in Biological Science from Sichuan University (China). Before joining SSE, I have worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Washington University’s Olin Business School.

My research has been published at The Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Small Group Research. My current research interests include social networks, leadership, moral emotions and creativity. I conduct my research by collecting survey data, using experimental methods, and performing meta-analysis, and aim to answer these broad questions:

1) How do individuals (ones without designated titles) become leaders and how formal leaders react to the informal leadership?

2) How social dynamics between formal and informal leaders impact the team as a whole?

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family.
