How to study Crimea: Evidence, policies, and lessons yet to learn
About the event
This event complements the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform, which will take place in Sweden in November 2025. At a time when the issue of Crimea requires sustained international attention, it is essential that academic and public discussions continue to shed light on its history, identity, and political significance.
The program will focus on the development of Ukrainian Studies, with a particular emphasis on Crimean Tatar Studies. By engaging students, scholars, and policymakers, the event aims to anchor this critical topic within Sweden’s academic and humanitarian space, fostering informed dialogue and long-term cooperation.
The event also offers a platform to counter disinformation and promote a fact-based understanding of Crimea through academic rigor, research, and open dialogue. It seeks to reaffirm the role of universities as spaces for truth and collaboration - where evidence and authentic voices can inform policy and public understanding.
Building on the success of a similar gathering in New York in September 2025, held alongside the governmental Crimea Platform Summit, the Stockholm event continues this international academic effort, strengthening connections between researchers, activists, and diplomatic representatives.
