On Friday January 26th, Anders Sewerin from the Center for Sports & Business attended the 5th edition of Swedish Elite Football's (SEF) Network Arena in Amsterdam to talk about the Management Diploma for Athletes Program.

Apart from being the Director for Strategy Development at the Center for Sports & Business, Anders Sewerin is also the Program Leader for the Management Diploma for Athletes (MDA) Program. It was in this capacity that Anders Sewerin was invited by Swedish Elite Football to talk about this customised entrepreneurship and management program, which supports elite athletes in their transition to their next career.

The Network Arena is a conference organized by Swedish Elite Football, with its 5th edition taking palce in Amsterdam over three days. The conference consists of meetings together with both representatives from Swedish Professional Football Leagues, the partners of Allsvenskan and Supperettan as well as Elitfotboll Dam, and representatives from 20 clubs and their strategic partners. In total, 160 individuals attended the conference.

The Management Diploma for Athletes (MDA) program marked the start of sports and business at the Stockholm School of Economics. In 2011, SSE Executive Education was invited by the Johan Cruyff Institute to launch this one-year educational program and in 2021, the 8th class launched. In terms of content, the MDA can be considered as a "mini-MBA program" as it incorperates strategy, marketing, leadership, and accounting. In total, the program is 30 days, normally consisting of 2-day modules spread over the year.

MDA is specifically for professional athletes, ready to start their next career. Our diploma program brings together people from various sports arenas who all have in common a strong commitment and determination to succeed. These are the same ingredients to make both a successful career in sport and a successful career in business. In total, the MDA program has 56 alumnis, among others, Christina Bengtsson, Peter and Magdalena Forsberg, Matias Concha, Robert Larsson, Helena Ekholm and Jonas Gustafsson.
