Systembolaget’s Roadmap Toward Net Zero Emissions

Retail Management students took part in a theme lecture about Systembolaget’s climate transition plan and its ambitious roadmap toward net zero emissions by 2045.

Susanna Westin, Sustainability Strategist at Systembolaget, presented how the company is taking concrete steps to reduce its climate impact. The focus lies on cutting the emissions Systembolaget can directly control, within Scope 1 and 2, such as energy use and transports. By doing so, the company aims to lead by example and build a strong foundation for tackling the more complex Scope 3 emissions through collaboration and innovation together with suppliers and producers.

Susanna also shared results from Systembolaget’s studies on what truly drives customers to make sustainable choices. While many believe that functional aspects like price and information matter most, the findings show that emotional and social factors play a much greater role. Feelings of belonging, identity, and doing the right thing are what actually shape behavior. These insights are now helping Systembolaget design smarter ways to inspire customers and make sustainability a natural part of the shopping experience.

A warm thank you to Susanna for an inspiring and thought-provoking lecture, and to Emelie Neidell for organizing this inspiring session.
