CAS / UI India Research Fellow in Business and Economics
This is a 1-year position, with the possibility of one-year extension. We are preferably looking for candidates interested in the fields of International Business, International Trade, Economic Geography, Business and Management, or the Political Economy of India. Applicants should have a background in conducting research on India related issues, and a thorough understanding of policy making processes. We encourage research interest in any of the respective following areas:
The global economic position of India. With the rapid economic development, India has become a central stakeholder on the global market. This research area deals with the development of a changing geoeconomic system and the potential geopolitical outcome for the future. It includes positions on trade, economic security, and foreign investment within the rules based international order.
India and global value chains and production networks. This relates to the rising importance of the knowledge and service economy and its impacts on production networks and regional economic growth. The role of India as an economic actor is key, but equally important is the role of Indian firms active on the international market.
India and the green economy transition. Questions of sustainability related both to general economic growth and to company level engagement of the green transition is central for the future. In this area there are also big potential in collaboration among Indian and foreign firms. The development of the circular economy is one such example.
Other research interests and suggestions will also be evaluated.
The Fellow will be employed by the Centre for Asian Studies at the Stockholm School of Economics but will also commit to write policy briefs and participate in outreach activities at UI. 75% of the time will be spent on producing high quality research output in peer reviewed outlets, and 25% of the time will be allocated to policy work with UI. Apart from academic output, experience of working with policy relevant publishing and outreach is a merit.
