On October 20th, we welcomed Visiting Professor Aron Lindberg in presenting an academic seminar about his latest research exploring how a major software development company, Autodesk, has been establishing a platform ecosystem out of already existing applications, both internal and external to the company. This seminar represents an integrative and important part of the House of Innovation's strategy to build a research environment through engagement with prominent guests and their work.

Visiting Professor Lindberg's research highlights the need for central facilitation of emergent processes. He suggests that traditional perspectives on software development, which roughly follow a “plan-execute-validate” paradigm, are not sufficient for understanding how platforms emerge out of collections of already existing applications.

Aron Lindberg is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the School of Business, Stevens Institute of Technology. He received his PhD at Case Western Reserve University (2015), and primarily studies how digital innovation is influenced by crowds and algorithms. His research has been published in journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems.

This seminar was a part of the Academic Seminar Series offered in cooperation with the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.
