The House of Innovation

The House of Innovation is one of Europe's leading environments for research on innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.

We're a closely connected ecosystem where startups grow into global ventures, interdisciplinary research drives societal impact, and knowledge is built at the highest scientific level and linked to practice, policy, and real-world challenges.

What is the House of Innovation?

The House of Innovation was born from a simple recognition: that innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation had moved to the center of economic and societal life – and academia needed to respond.

Founded at the Stockholm School of Economics, the House of Innovation was designed from the outset as an integrated ecosystem bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs, students, policymakers, and industry leaders in a shared environment built for collaboration and real-world impact.

Since our foundations were laid in 2017–2018, we have grown into one of Europe's strongest research environments in innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.

Our scholars publish in the world's top journals and deliver education from Bachelor-level to PhD supervision and Executive Education. Our startup incubator SSE Business Lab is ranked #1 in the Nordics and #7 in Europe by the Financial Times, and has supported more than 340 companies since its inception, including Klarna, Voi, and Budbee.

Our vision is to be a global destination for innovation-driven research and leadership development — a place where people come to understand, shape, and accelerate the future.

The Erling Persson House of Innovation

Our home, the Erling Persson House of Innovation, is a 1920s Nordic-classical building on Norrtullsgatan in Stockholm. Renovated and reimagined, it is now a purpose-built space for research, collaboration, and discovery. Walking through its corridors, you encounter large-scale artworks that provoke, invite reflection, and remind us that the best thinking rarely happens in a straight line.

Art is central to life at the Stockholm School of Economics. The works on display at the House of Innovation are therefore not solely for decoration. They are part of the intellectual environment. From Lars Arrhenius's playful and poignant video portrait of the school, to Peter Hagdahl's sprawling two-floor installation mapping economic flows and social transformation, each piece adds a layer of meaning to the spaces where researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and visitors think and work together.

We believe that creativity, innovation, empathy, and the ability to see beyond conventional logic are essential for tackling the societal challenges of tomorrow. The curated environment at HoI is a reflection of that belief: a place where history and momentum coexist, where conversations feel fresh and relevant, and where you sense, from the moment you arrive, that something new is happening.
