Mistra Financial Systems (MFS)

This program investigates both possibilities and limitations for the financial sector to support the transition to sustainable societies

Mistra Financial Systems (MFS) is a research program that has been developed in response to this question. With support from Mistra (the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research), we aim to provide viable ideas for how financial systems can be put to work for the sustainable development of society.

Through a total of 30 research projects, divided into five work packages, carried out by 50 researchers, and over a period of 4 years, we will investigate both possibilities and limitations for the financial sector to support the transition to sustainable societies. At Mistra Financial Systems, we understand “sustainable development” as the realization of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

MFS program management:

Mistra Financial Systems is hosted by the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) through its Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (Misum).

Bo Becker, Professor in Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics, is Program Director with overall responsibility for Mistra Financial Systems.

Peter Norman, former Minster for Financial Markets, is the Chairman of the Mistra Financial Systems Program Board and a member of the Misum Board.
