The Nature of Identity
In conjunction with the screening of the works Commoncause and Calmation the artist Maria Friberg and professor Lars Strannegård were invited to discuss the notion of identity and masculinity.
They are two dominant themes in the work of Maria Friberg, who thoroughly has been investigating the behavior and identity of businessmen since the 1990s. Rather than being treated as a stable entity, Friberg discussed the influence of power and control, and the influence our societal context and social norms on the way we perceive and create ourselves.
Lars Strannegård, who has been working in close collaboration with Maria Friberg previously, investigating the construction of identity it era in the 1990s through their book "Already elsewhere", gave an introduction to the major themes of Friberg's work.
