Playful transformation in education - LEGO Foundation as case
This seminar was part of CELE's seminar series, where invited guests present their scholarly work and staff members share work in progress. The series provides a forum for discussing new perspectives on educational leadership, management, and policy, and all sessions are held both on-site at CELE's premises at Saltmätargatan 13-17 and online via Zoom.
Knudsen's research explores how private corporate foundations can influence and shape educational systems. In Denmark, the LEGO Foundation is playing a key role, working with six Danish University Colleges to reimagine teaching and learning. The research investigates how these collaborations create what Knudsen calls "playful transformations" - moments where both education and business are redefined.
During the seminar, Knudsen shared recent empirical material, including interviews with representatives from the LEGO Foundation. She framed her analysis through the concepts of potentiality and actuality, asking how educational institutions and commercial actors navigate a future that is radically uncertain.
The seminar sparked lively discussion among participants on the opportunities and challenges that arise when private foundations take an active role in shaping public education.
