Social Innovation Scholarship 2021: meet the winners!

This year’s Social Innovation Scholarship has been awarded to Louise Ribrant and Maakwe Cumanzala, two SSE students with bright futures. The scholarship will support them this summer while working for and supporting a social entrepreneur, leveraging their business skills to create positive change. Social innovation and social entrepreneurship are initiatives aimed to improve what is missing or not working in the social structure: new solutions, methods and ideas that create a sustainable society – economically, socially and ecologically.

Louise is currently following the Bachelors program in Business and Economics and will work with Ambitious Africa, an organization trying to transform the collaboration between Africa and the Nordics by focusing on Education, Entrepreneurship, and Entertainment. It connects, inspires, and empowers young people in all African and Nordic countries to work together, lead the change, and create transformation.

Maakwe is taking the Master Program in Economics and plans to support Zubo Trust, a woman-led, non-profit organization in Zimbabwe that promotes the socio-economic advancement of rural wome by empowering them to take a leading role in creating sustainable solutions to the problems they face. 

The Social Innovation Scholarship is coordinated by House of Innovation, in collaboration with SASSE’s Entrepreneurship Society, and makes part of the outreach program of the Jacob & Marcus Wallenberg Center for Innovative and Sustainable Business Development.

I am honored to be awarded the Social Innovation Scholarship and looking forward to a continued engagement together with Ambitious Africa. The organization’s history highlights how entrepreneurship and commitment can create positive impact through international exchanges and ideas. In an equal spirit, I am eager to learn from the opportunity meanwhile hoping to bring value through my learnings from SSE.
Louise Ribrant
This scholarship is going to enable me to combine my knowledge and skills in the areas of social impact and entrepreneurship for the purpose of poverty alleviation in one of the most marginalized communities in Zimbabwe. I am grateful to be awarded this opportunity that will enhance the work I will be doing in collaboration with Zubo Trust’s Women Empowerment Centre on issues I care about deeply.
