Nobel laureate Prof. Joseph Stiglitz and Prof. Elke Weber speakers at Misum Forum 2021

Join Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (Misum) on October 8 for our second Annual Forum, which will examine the topic of ‘Responding to climate change - challenges and possible solutions’ with internationally renowned scholars as well as experts from the world of finance and high-emitting industries.

Misum Forum 2021 will be a full-day virtual event with five academic presentations held by world-class professors and scholars in climate and economics. Among them, we are delighted to be joined by Prof. Elke Weber, Gerhard R. Andlinger Professor in Energy and the Environment at Princeton University, and Nobel laureate Prof. Joseph Stiglitz, Professor of Economics at Columbia University.

Prof. Elke Weber will give a talk on “Decision Making in Complex Realities”:

“The complex nature of human behavior is increasingly recognized as an important cause of sustainability problems and potential leverage for their solution. I will provide an overview of theories and tools that support the integration of knowledge about context-dependent and dynamic human behavior into sustainability research.”

Prof. Joseph Stiglitz will close this year’s Misum Forum with a keynote talk on the topic of “Climate Change, the Social Cost of Carbon and Risk”, covering two main areas:

1. Why recent work in economics underestimates urgency and scope of what has to be done, and leads to too low a price of carbon

2. Why climate policy needs to entail a mix of instruments—pricing, regulations, and public investments

Other academic speakers include Prof. Laura Starks, Professor of Finance, the University of Austin at Texas; Prof. Samuel Fankhauser, Professor of Climate Change Economics and Policy, University of Oxford; Prof. Brendan O'Dwyer, Professor of Accounting, University of Amsterdam. Misum researchers presenting their insights on climate-related topics include Margo Enthoven, Marion Leroutier, Marek Reuter and Laszlo Sajtos. Industry panelists include representatives from Folksam, Electrolux, AP7, Scania and H2 Green Steel.

The conference will be live-streamed, with speakers based around the world and at Misum’s home base of Stockholm School of Economics. Registration is required to watch the event live.
