The Swedish Hockey League (SHL) is strengthening its cooperation with the Center for Sports and Business at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). SHL is supporting the center with a guest professor, new research projects, and student teams, as well as contributing to a European education program for executives, the European Sports Business Program. The goal is to develop in areas such as organization, digitalization, sustainability, innovation, partnerships, and commercialization.

Swedish elite sports are in a crisis. In just three years, 20 elite clubs in six different sports have vanished from the elite leagues. Responding to this in Swedish television (Sportspegeln on SVT), Professor and Director for the Center for Sports & Business at the SSE, Martin Carlsson-Wall notes: "I believe we are at a turning point."

Three of Europe’s top business schools – WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Düsseldorf, Germany, the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden, and ESSEC Business School in Paris, France – have announced the creation of the European Sports Business Program (ESBP), a new business management executive education offering for leaders interested in the European sports industry.

On September 27, the Center for Sports & Business had the pleasure of hosting Noa Bachner, distinguished sports journalist from Swedish newspaper Expressen, at SSE. Bachner discussed his latest book, "Den Sista Utposten" (The Last Outpost), in an event jointly organised by SSE Sport Initiative and SSE Literary Agenda.

The Center for Sports & Business is very happy to share the news of a new student-led initiative - the CSB Sports Committee, which officially launched this week. The aim of the committee is to promote awareness of the benefits of sports for well-being, as well as gaining insight into the sports industry from a CFO and investor perspective.

On Wednesday, June 14, the Center for Sports & Business organised a professor fika in the Heckscher-Ohlin room at the Stockholm School of Economics in order to celebrate Center Director Martin Carlsson-Wall's appointment as professor at the SSE, as well as introduce our new Jonas Persson Visiting Professor, Paolo Aversa.

Martin Carlsson Wall has been appointed professor of accounting at the Stockholm School of Economics. Martin Carlsson Wall’s research explores the intersection between accounting, creativity, sports and emotions.

On Monday, May 29, the Center for Sports & Business held a joint webinar together with the Spanish Football League LaLiga about the history of financial regulation in football. This webinar featured Tomas Hjelström, Assistant Professor at the Stockholm School of Economics, as well as Javier Gómez, Chief Corporate Officer at LaLiga.
