German Bender nominated to Best PhD Student Award

German Bender’s conference paper, ”The political economy of partial organization: Nested partiality, legitimacy and resilience in Swedish wage formation”, has been nominated to the Best PhD Student Paper Award at the 37th EGOS (European Group for Organizational Studies) Colloquium in Amsterdam (winners are announced next year).

The study attempts to make several contributions to organizational studies and the industrial relations literature. Theoretically and methodologically, by proposing new concepts and a novel analytical method to the partial organization framework, first introduced by organizational scholars Göran Ahrne and Nils Brunsson. Its empirical contribution is to provide the first detailed organizational model of the Swedish Industrial Norm system for wage formation (“industrinormeringen”). The paper’s tentative findings enhance our understanding of how loose and distributed organizational structures in industrial relations systems can be conducive to legitimacy and resilience, and should be of interest to policy makers and practitioners both nationally and internationally.
