Abhijeet Singh winner of SSE Corporate Partners’ Research Award 2021

Associate Professor Abhijeet Singh has been awarded the SSE Corporate Partners’ Research Award 2021 for his empirical studies of education polices. The award, which amounts to 100,000 SEK, was presented by SSE President Lars Strannegård.

Abhijeet’s research focuses on topics in development and labor economics, especially relating to education, child nutrition and public service delivery in developing countries.

The prize, presented by SSE President Lars Strannegård, includes a diploma and a grant that amounts to 100,000 SEK.

About the winner

Abhijeet Singh has conducted informative field experiments, together with NGOs and policy-makers, to find out how we can efficiently improve the education of children around the world. In one influential study, Abhijeet finds substantial positive effects of a personalized technology- aided after-school instruction program in urban Indian middle-schools. In another study, he finds that a large-scale program of school inspections in India has no effect on school quality. In conducting his research, Singh displays a broad range of skills, from the entrepreneurial and diplomatic skills required to persuade policy-makers and bureaucrats, through the leadership skills required to administer large field experiments, to the deep econometric skills required to make credible causal inference. As a result, his work has been published in the world’s best economics journals.
