About the winner

Abhijeet Singh has conducted informative field experiments, together with NGOs and policy-makers, to find out how we can efficiently improve the education of children around the world. In one influential study, Abhijeet finds substantial positive effects of a personalized technology- aided after-school instruction program in urban Indian middle-schools. In another study, he finds that a large-scale program of school inspections in India has no effect on school quality. In conducting his research, Singh displays a broad range of skills, from the entrepreneurial and diplomatic skills required to persuade policy-makers and bureaucrats, through the leadership skills required to administer large field experiments, to the deep econometric skills required to make credible causal inference. As a result, his work has been published in the world’s best economics journals.
