Misum Annual Report 2025 marks transition to new SSE research house
After a decade of research and collaboration, the final Misum Annual Report is now published. The Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (Misum) has, over the past six years alone, delivered more than 400 academic publications, secured 99 research grants, and been part of over 600 research collaborations. It has hosted 144 events and seminars and reached more than 73,000 citations on Google Scholar—figures that demonstrate both academic strength and societal relevance.
Highlights from 2025
Misum closed its final year on a high note in 2025. The annual Forum gathered 200 participants, bringing together researchers and leaders from business, government, and civil society to discuss geopolitical power shifts and sustainability. Throughout the year, seminars featured scholars from institutions such as Princeton University, Yale University, the University of Manchester, and the National University of Singapore, reflecting Misum’s international collaborations.
“As Misum transitions into the House of Sustainable Society, we deepen our commitment to producing high-quality research in close collaboration with civil society, business, and government partners—research that contributes meaningfully to a more sustainable society,” says Martina Björkman Nyqvist, Center Director for the House of Sustainable Society. “I am particularly excited about establishing the Impact Lab and seeing the new projects and partnerships that will emerge from it.”
Transition to SSE’s fourth research house
The transition to the House of Sustainable Society marks both continuity and change. The core remains the same: a strong emphasis on rigorous sustainability research, clear policy relevance, and close collaboration with external partners. At the same time, the new structure brings expanded resources and a sharper focus on climate-related challenges.
The House of Sustainable Society will operate with a dual leadership model, combining strategic direction with executive management. Its research will be organized into four platforms: Development and Environmental Economics, Accounting Frameworks, Business Models and Innovation, and Financial Markets.
Funding will also broaden through a shared model supported by the Mistra Foundation and the Kamprad Family Foundation, creating more opportunities to scale research and collaboration. For instance, a new Impact Lab will bring together researchers, companies, public institutions, and civil society to co-develop solutions and test them in practice.
The 2025 Annual Report is both a summary and a starting point. It is the final chapter of Misum’s decade of research and the beginning of the House of Sustainable Society. It sets the direction for a broader, more action-oriented approach to sustainability research—one that addresses environmental, societal, and economic challenges to support the transition to a more sustainable society.
