SSE Professor Magnus Johannesson is ranked as one of the world’s best scientists in the arena of Economics and Finance, according to Research.com. He shares this honor with several Nobel Laureates.

We are delighted to welcome a new researcher to the Economics Department, Jaakko Meriläinen, who will start as an Assistant professor at the department after the summer.

The Swedish Gender Equality Agency's thesis competition was organized for the first time in 2021. The content related criterion for participation in the competition is that the essay contributes to knowledge about gender equality policy or social development based on the ambitions of gender equality policy.

The prize was established in 1983 as a tribute to Professor Gunnar Myrdal on his 85th birthday. The Myrdal Prize is awarded each year by Swedbank for the best article of the year in the Swedish Economic Association's journal Ekonomisk Debatt.

Misallocation of resources explains much of the productivity differences across countries, but the role of informal institutions in this misallocation has been little documented. In a recently published paper, Sampreet Goraya, Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, brings evidence that the Indian caste system has a distortionary effect on capital and talent allocation in the economy.
