From oak doors to open futures: SSE kicks off welcome week 2025

This week, the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) opens its doors to a new cohort of students embarking on their academic journeys. Beyond enrollment, the week mixes academic sessions and fun social activities with moments focused on student wellbeing and services.

SSE's student association SASSE welcomed new students on the red carpet.

The welcome week kick started Friday, Aug. 22, when international exchange students gathered on campus to get to know their new academic home for the next semester.

On Monday Aug. 25, the new bachelor and PhD students began their introductions with greetings from SSE President Lars Strannegård alongside program directors and, for the undergraduates, the student association SASSE.

“SSE is nothing more than what you make of it,” Lars Strannegård said in his welcoming address in the Aula. “You should see your time here as a laboratory, a time to do intellectual experiments and stretch your abilities. Most of all, we want you to have a time full of learning, to feel that you are among friends and part of a community that inspires you to do what you want in life.”

After formally enrolling in their programs, the new bachelors joined smaller groups led by senior students or “parents” who help them explore campus life and meet new friends.

Master's students join mid-week

On Wednesday Aug. 27, the new master students will begin their introductions with a welcome from SSE leadership and an Academic Fair presenting opportunities ranging from global exchanges to SSE’s startup incubator Business Lab.

Throughout the week, the students will find opportunities to engage in sessions on wellbeing, student health, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), while learning about the FREE educational model and the Art, Sport, and Tech initiatives at SSE.

The week is balanced with program-specific social outings including city explorations, a boat trip, and a banquet. True to tradition, SASSE arranges social activities including an Olympic-style pentathlon, game nights, and even a takeover of the amusement park Gröna Lund.

“You walked in here through the oak doors, welcomed by your student association,” Lars Strannegård said. “When you leave, our aim is that hundreds of doors will be open to you.”
