The Ohlin Institute’s debate Prize 2021 goes to the blog "Ekonomistas"

The blog Ekonomistas was founded by six researchers in economics in 2008. The blog writes about economics and economic policy for researchers who are passionate about factual public debate and economic research. Several of the researchers behind the blog have been affiliated with SSE at some point.

Among the current members of the blog are Jesper Roine, Lars EO Svensson and Robert Östling, who are now based at SSE. Since the blog started it has published hundreds of facts- and research-based posts in the Swedish public debate, often followed by qualified discussions in the comments field. Ekonomistas has undoubtedly contributed to raising the level of the public debate and is an example of how researchers can contribute to the surrounding society, hence the debate prize from The Ohlin Institute.

The Bertil Ohlin Institute is politically independent and was founded in 1993 to "stimulate scientific research on the liberal ideas and their application to social conditions in Sweden and the world". The main part of the institute’s activity is focused on debates and seminars, lectures, publication of writings and books, as well as their annual essay competition for university students.
