Balancing green regulation and competition in Europe

On October 3, the House of Governance and Public Policy (GaPP) and the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF) co-hosted a seminar on Europe's green industrial transformation.

The discussion gathered experts from policy, academia, and industry to explore how the EU can achieve its climate goals while maintaining fair competition.

Speakers included Emanuele Tarantino (European Commission), Ola Hansén (Stegra), and Catharina Belfrage Sahlstrand (former Handelsbanken), who discussed topics such as carbon pricing, targeted subsidies, and regulatory stability.

The seminar emphasized that Europe's decarbonization journey requires balancing climate ambition, competitiveness, and long-term policy certainty.
