New research hub to meet the governance challenges of an uncertain future

The world is facing complex and major challenges, including energy supply, climate change and integration. Finding solutions will require collaborative governance that crosses the boundaries of the private and public. To meet the demand for such knowledge the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is launching a new research hub – the House of Governance and Public Policy (GaPP).

Although Sweden is a small country, we have made a name for ourselves internationally. The Swedish model, gender equality, social security and our record of innovation are achievements to be proud of. At the same time, major global challenges and rapid changes have tested the model to the limit.

During times of crisis, gaps between public and private actors become more apparent. And in critical situations established organizations need to be both stable and agile. There is a great demand for the latest knowledge about governance and management.

Unique research hub to bridge the gap

The Stockholm School of Economics means to close the knowledge gap and is therefore launching a totally new research hub, the House of Governance and Public Policy (GaPP).

“This unique project is our contribution to building a sound and sustainable foundation for the development of Swedish society,” says Lars Strannegård, the president of SSE. “We need to bridge the gap between the private and public sectors and ensure decision-makers have access to the right knowledge and research when they make choices about which direction society will go.”

This project is an important step in the development of SSE towards engaging with society on a broader basis. The House of GaPP will actively contribute to relevant research and better prepared decision-makers.

“The hub gathers research, education and cooperation on governance, evaluation and leadership in the private and public sectors under one roof – figuratively speaking,” says Karl Wennberg, professor at the School and Center Director of the House of GaPP.

Four research centers under one roof

At the time of the launch, the House of GaPP includes four research centers: the Center for Educational Leadership and Excellence, the Center for Statecraft and Strategic Communication, the Center for Municipality Governance and the new, interdisciplinary research center the Karl-Adam Bonnier Center for Governance.

The founding of the House of GaPP and the Karl-Adam Bonnier Center of Governance has been made possible by funding from the The Karl-Adam Bonnier Foundation.
