SSE Sport Initiative Visits the Swedish Olympic Committee

A group of students from the Stockholm School of Economics recently visited the Swedish Olympic Committee at Sofiatornet in Stockholm, gaining first-hand insights into elite sports, leadership, and organizational success.

The visit brought together future employees, entrepreneurs, specialists, and C-suite leaders for an engaging session focused on the realities behind Olympic performance. Representatives from the Swedish Olympic Committee openly shared both their successes and challenges, offering a transparent look into how elite sports are managed at the highest level.

Åsa Edlund Jönsson, Secretary General of the Swedish Olympic Committee, welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of long-term capability building, collaboration, and leadership in bringing Sweden to the Olympic podium. Discussions covered topics such as Olympic preparation, elite athlete development, revenue generation, and the broader ecosystem surrounding top-level sports.

Mikael Gunnarzon described his journey from elite athlete to student and eventually to his current role as CFO at the Swedish Olympic Committee. His story illustrated the diverse career paths that can emerge from combining sports, education, and professional ambition.

The visit is part of the field visit component of the SSE Sport Initiative, powered by the Center for Sports & Business.
