Stockholm Seminar (Webinar) on Japan, December 14

"Servitization: Origins and examples from Sweden and Japan"

The field of services research emerged from the marketing field in the 1960s, when the tertiary sector's share of GDP continued to grow to over 70% in developed countries. The services sector has been advancing on three fronts: production, labor, and households, and services research has progressed in step with this trend. However, economic activity has begun to transcend categorization into goods and services, manufacturing and services. It is no longer a question of goods or services, but how those resources are combined to provide a solution often referred to as Servitization of industry. In this Stockholm Seminar on Japan Professor Keiko Toya will discuss the concept of servitization, with a comparative perspective from Japan and Sweden.

Speaker: Professor Keiko Toya, Graduate School of Global Business, Meiji University and Visiting Researcher, European Institute of Japanese Studies, Stockholm School of Economics

After working in planning and merger operations at a bank, Keiko Toya headed a team analysing large volumes of data at a computer vendor and later established her own consulting firm. At the same time, she obtained a PhD in business administration from Tsukuba University, and after working at Doshisha University, she is currently teaching service marketing at Meiji University. In addition to her own consulting work, she is also involved in several academic service-related projects. She is a regular member of the Science Council of Japan and also serves as an external director of two listed companies, where she combines academia and practice in parallel.
