SSE students among top three finalists for UN-supported global sustainability award

The SASSE Sustainability Group (SSG), a student-led initiative at the Stockholm School of Economics, competed in a United Nations-supported global sustainability award in New York this week. The event was held at the PRME Global Forum, hosted by the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and the UN Global Compact.

SSG represented Europe as one of three global finalists, having previously won the European round of the competition. Their innovative approach to student engagement and sustainability leadership distinguished them on the international stage.

“We’re really happy,” said Sara Segergren, one of SSG’s five members who pitched at the final event hosted by Cornell University. “To be here representing one of the top three student sustainability projects in the world has been quite overwhelming, but also such a great opportunity to meet and connect with students and faculty from all over the world. We’re all so proud of how far we’ve come, and a huge congratulations to our friends from Bimtech in India for winning the Global Award!”

Among the impactful actions that qualified SSG for the final were two annual week-long flagship events: Sustainable Career Week and Sustainable Fashion Week. Both feature a mix of lectures, panel discussions, workshops and fairs that connect hundreds of students with sustainability leaders in industry and politics, raising awareness of pressing social and environmental issues.

“Warm congratulations to the SASSE Sustainability Group for this achievement on a global stage,” said SSE President Lars Strannegård. “They truly embody the spirit of responsible leadership and innovation that we value so highly at SSE.”
