SITE academic conference will host distinguished speakers
The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) and the Association of Swedish Development Economists (ASWEDE) has the pleasure to invite you to the SITE Academic conference "Public Sector Efficiency and Effectiveness: Implications for Developing and Transition Countries".
SITE and the ASWEDE network will host a two-day academic conference from December 14 until December 15 at the Stockholm School of Economics, KAW, Sveavägen 65. The intention of this conference is to bring together international scholars to discuss and showcase what current research tells us about the effectiveness and efficiency of public sectors in low and middle-income countries, and how they can be improved.
It is widely held that the presence of a well-functioning state is key to encouraging economic growth and individual welfare. States' capacity to raise revenues and spend them in favor of their citizens, effectively and efficiently delivering crucial public services and infrastructure, is by now widely recognized as a crucial, necessary condition for sustained development and growth. Nowhere is this more evident than in the context of low and middle-income countries, often (but not always) struggling with low capacity and corruption both on the revenue and expenditure side.
We are honored that, this year the conference will be attended by two distinguished keynote speakers:
- Oriana Bandiera, Sir Anthony Atkinson Professor of Economics, London School of Economics
- James Robinson, Dr. Richard L. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies, University of Chicago
We are looking forward to seeing you on December 14-15 and invite you to register for the conference until December 8, 2017 using the Eventbrite registration form on the right.
