Exploring 'Classics of Applied History' and 'The Monkey and the Money' at Book Launch

An exploration of historical narratives and economic evolution, the recent double book launch of the Classics of Applied History and The Monkey and The Money was hosted by CSSC.

The recent event, "Applied History and Economics – double book launch," featured a compelling panel discussion along with the launch of two notable books, "Classics of Applied History" and "The Monkey and the Money." Held on December 5, 2023, at the Stockholm School of Economics, the event explored the historical development of capitalism from Ancient Greece to the present day.

The Classics of Applied History, edited by John Bew, Andrew Ehrhardt, and Mattias Hessérus, presented a collection of texts spanning various eras, highlighting how historical knowledge has been created, taught, and utilized throughout history. Kjell A. Nordström's The Monkey and the Money delved into the history of capitalism, examining it as both a human endeavor and a philosophical concept.

The panel discussion featured distinguished experts:

  1. Kjell A Nordström, author and lecturer in business administration.
  2. Mattias Hessérus, historian and Director of the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy.
  3. Andrew Ehrhardt, historian and postdoc fellow at the Kissinger Center at SAIS.

The event concluded with a drinks reception, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage further with the speakers and delve into the fascinating topics presented.
