SSE Business Lab climbs from eighth to seventh place in the Financial Times’ ranking of 180 European startup hubs, remaining the only Nordic hub in the top ten. The move comes as Stockholm draws growing attention as the place to be for tech and AI startups, attracting founders eager to understand what is driving the city’s momentum. 

When startups scale quickly, founders often make hurried hiring decisions that unintentionally disadvantage women, according to new study from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden. The study shows how the pressures of rapid growth increase the likelihood that founders rely on mental shortcuts and make biased decisions.

Since 2003, the Entrepreneurship Forum has recognized emerging talent in academia through its annual Young Researcher Prize, celebrating impactful work in entrepreneurship and small business research. Universities can play a big role in inspiring students to start their own businesses. A new study published in The Journal of Technology Transfer by House of Innovation researcher Maria Cecilia Flores suggests that when universities actively communicate about entrepreneurship programs and provide education on starting businesses, students become more aware of opportunities and perceive their environment as more supportive of entrepreneurship. Today, SSE Business Lab announces its largest intake of companies ever – 15 startups, of which an impressive 60% are built on AI technology. Among the new founders are both serial entrepreneurs and senior executives.

According to the Financial Times’ newest ranking of Europe’s startup hubs, dramatic changes are afoot: half of last year’s leading hubs have vanished from the list, while SSE Business Lab has surged ahead. Now ranked at number eight, SSE's incubator is the only Nordic hub to earn a place in the top ten.

The Stockholm School of Economics has appointed Isabel Keulen the new CEO of its fund SSE Ventures and startup incubator SSE Business Lab. The change in leadership is happening at the same time as the incubator and the fund will move into the School’s new premises at Norrtullsgatan. The plan is to build a new hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

SSE has a long-standing commitment to both culture and wellbeing. These efforts are now becoming evident at the School’s startup incubator: more than half of the new ideas are focused around art and health.
