I'm an Associate Professor in Economics, based at SSE since 2017.

My research focuses on topics in development and labour economics, especially relating to education, child nutrition and public service delivery in developing countries. Much of my research focuses on estimating the causal effects of policy reforms in education, often using field experiments, in a range of topics including the use of appropriate technology, improving public sector management, broadening access to private schooling, and the take-up and social incidence of school integration policies. With Prof. Martina Bjorkman-Nyqvist, I am also working on a randomized controlled trial on the effect of peers on the integration of migrants in Sweden.  My research has been funded by major international funders including the European Research Council, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, ESRC, JPAL, Handelsbanken foundations and  and the Asian Development Bank Institute.

My research has appeared in leading journals including the American Economic Review, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Development Economics and Science.
