Artificial Intelligence at SSE

The SSE Artificial Intelligence Policy encourages us to be transparent, accountable, cautious and curious about AI. The implications differ somewhat if you are tackling AI from a research, educational or administrational point of view.

At this page you'll find information about AI-related resources at SSE, a Q&A and useful contacts that might be of help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will SSE get an institutional subscription to ChatGPT?

As of now SSE does not have an agreement with OpenAI for the use of ChatGPT. Licenses must be purchased directly from OpenAI through faculty or department level.

These purchase restrictions also apply to other products, such as Scite, Iris, and Elicit. Any faculty member making an individual purchase must ensure that the product complies with GDPR regulations.

🎤︎︎ Transcription and AI

AI tools can assist with transcriptions, making it easier to capture interviews, lectures, or meeting notes. However, when handling confidential material, it is recommended, and sometimes legally required, to use SSE-approved tools to ensure compliance with GDPR.

If you use AI tools in your academic work, it's important to be transparent and consistent when referencing. AI-generated content isn't a traditional source, so you need to describe how the tool was used and follow the appropriate citation style (e.g., APA, Harvard, or Chicago).
