Academic, professional and networking opportunities

The MSc program in Finance provides students with a diverse range of academic, professional, and networking opportunities designed to enhance both classroom learning and career readiness.

From preparatory courses and company engagements to networking events and personalized career support, the program provides a comprehensive foundation for success in finance. See an overview of what we offer below:

Preparatory courses

Before arriving on campus, all admitted MSc in Finance students are invited to participate in online preparatory courses in Python Programming and Accounting. These virtual sessions, held over several days, provide an essential refresher in foundational concepts, ensuring all students begin the program with confidence and readiness for the rigorous coursework ahead.

MFIN Immersion Week

The program begins with a dynamic week-long immersion experience designed to foster both academic and professional growth. Split between three days off-campus and two days on-campus, the week includes case-based learning, interactive sessions with industry leaders, and a strong emphasis on career development. Students form meaningful connections with their ninety classmates, network with company representatives and alumni, and participate in a variety of social activities that set the tone for their time at SSE.

Finance Fair

Each year, SSE hosts a two-day Finance Fair that attracts dozens of employers from the finance and banking industries. These organizations actively recruit for internships and entry-level roles, offering students the opportunity to engage directly with recruiters from Stockholm, London, Frankfurt, and beyond. The event serves as a key platform for building professional networks and exploring potential career paths.

Company lunches

To promote deeper engagement between students and industry professionals, SSE organizes a series of company lunches throughout the academic year. These small, discussion-based gatherings allow students to connect with representatives from the finance and banking sectors in an informal setting, gain insights into different career trajectories, and explore potential future opportunities.

Women in Finance and Banking event

The Women in Finance and Banking event, organized by SASSE (SSE's student association), celebrates and empowers female leadership within the industry. This two-day on-campus event features keynote presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions with distinguished female executives and alumni. It offers students valuable insights into career advancement, mentorship, and gender equity in the financial sector.

Global Mixer

To encourage cross-cultural exchange and collaboration, SSE hosts a Global Mixer that brings together international students from the Finance, International Business, and MBA programs. Held in the evening, this social event provides a relaxed environment where students can connect with peers from their own regions and expand their international networks.

Professional PathFinder Program

The Professional PathFinder program offers each student personalized career coaching throughout the two-year degree. Experienced coaches provide one-on-one guidance on CV and cover letter development, interview preparation, and career strategy. Students also have the option to take the MBTI personality assessment to better understand their strengths and working styles. While two sessions are standard, students are encouraged to schedule additional meetings as needed to maximize their career support.

Mock interviews

SSE’s mock interview program gives students practical experience in a simulated professional setting. Participants receive a standard job description in advance, then take part in an on-campus interview with an alum who provides real-time, personalized feedback afterward. This experience helps students refine their interviewing techniques and gain confidence ahead of real recruitment processes.

CaseCoach

Recognizing the growing importance of case-based interviews within finance and consulting, SSE provides access to the CaseCoach platform. Developed by industry experts, this tool allows students to practice solving real-world cases either individually or collaboratively with peers at SSE or partner institutions. The platform helps students strengthen analytical and communication skills essential for success in modern recruitment processes.

Career support at SSE

SSE’s Career Management team supports students throughout their professional journey by offering access to a dedicated career hub equipped with tools for crafting CVs and cover letters. Through the JobTeaser platform, students can browse internship and job postings from Stockholm-based companies, including SSE’s corporate partners. Additionally, SSE's full-time Internship Coordinator works closely with our students to help them secure relevant and rewarding placements.

MFIN Business Project (Internship)

Students have the opportunity to apply their academic learning in a real-world setting through an eight-week Business Project Internship. The experience, worth 15 ECTS, culminates in a written project reflecting on the internship’s professional insights and outcomes. Upon successful completion, students may opt to pursue a condensed 15 ECTS thesis, further integrating practical experience with academic achievement.
