Nobel Calling: Health diplomacy in practice - where science meets policy
Join us for a discussion on how research can strengthen global cooperation in health. We will explore Sweden’s role in reforming and supporting the World Health Organization (WHO), and what is needed for researchers, policymakers, and civil society to work together in the fight against future pandemics.
We will highlight examples of how research-based insights have influenced pandemic response and vaccine access, and discuss how science can contribute to more equitable, effective, and sustainable solutions to global health challenges. How do we build strong and inclusive partnerships that endure over time? What role do diplomacy, trust, and knowledge-sharing play in creating a healthier world?
This event is a collaboration between the Stockholm School of Economics and Karolinska Institutet, as part of Nobel Calling Stockholm - a week that highlights the importance of science in society. Following a brief introduction by representatives from SSE and KI, the programme continues with an in-depth on-stage conversation between Anders Nordström, physician and diplomat, Tobias Alfvén, pediatrician and clinical professor of global child health at Karolinska Institutet, Karl Wennberg, professor and scientific director of House of Governance and Public Policy at the Stockholm of School of Economics and Gunilla Carlsson, chair of the board of Sida and former Minister for International Development Cooperation.
The panel will be followed by talk with Karin Tegmark-Wisell, Sweden's Ambassador for Global Health.
The event will be held in Swedish and is open to the public. It is particularly relevant for students, researchers, policymakers, and professionals working in global health and international cooperation.
