Swedish House of Finance's Mariassunta Giannetti Appointed ECGI Fellow

The European Corporate Governance Institute appoints Mariassunta Giannetti, Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics as Fellow, recognizing her contributions in the field of corporate governance.

Swedish House of Finance (SHoF) researcher and Stockholm School of Economics’ (SSE) Katarina Martinson Professor of Finance, Mariassunta Giannetti, has been appointed Fellow at the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI).  

Giannetti is among eight new appointees announced on January 10. Previously appointed Fellows include Nobel Laureates Bengt Holmström and Douglas Diamond.    

The appointees have made their mark by publishing influential research in top academic journals and advising governments, businesses, and respected institutions. Their work not only garners frequent citations but also drives new research in corporate governance, ECGI said in a press release. 

"Being appointed fellow of ECGI is a true honor," Giannetti said.  

Giannetti’s award-winning research, covering corporate finance, governance, and financial intermediation, is featured in leading journals across Finance, Economics, and Management. She currently serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Finance and other prestigious journals and often speaks at central banks worldwide. Giannetti completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles, and her B.A. and M.Sc. at Bocconi University. 

The Swedish House of Finance now counts two of its researchers as ECGI research fellows: Giannetti and Per Strömberg, Centennial Professor of Finance and Private Equity at SSE.  

Bo Becker, SHoF's director, highlighted the importance of the institute's relationship with ECGI. 

“We’re excited that the Swedish House of Finance becomes an institutional member of ECGI this year. The mission of ECGI is to help top academics in corporate governance bring their research to leading practitioners and policymakers by making knowledge accessible and relevant. This aligns very well with the aims of SHoF,” Becker said.
