Jun. 18, 2025
SHoF Director Bo Becker has been named to the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS), joining a network of scholars dedicated to advancing our understanding of how financial systems operate and evolve.

Bo Becker, Director of the Swedish House of Finance and Cevian Capital Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics, has been appointed to the board of the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS). FIRS is a global organization committed to promoting research on financial intermediation, how capital flows from savers to borrowers through institutions like banks, capital markets, and fintech platforms.
Founded in 2006, FIRS has become a hub for high-impact scholarship on banking, credit markets, and financial regulation. Its annual conferences regularly attract leading voices in the field, including Nobel laureate Douglas Diamond and former IMF Chief Economist and ex-Governor of the Reserve Bank of India Raghuram Rajan. The society plays a crucial role in shaping dialogue around financial stability, regulation, innovation, and access to credit, topics that are increasingly central amid economic uncertainty and rapid financial innovation.
“FIRS organizes one of the most important annual conferences, covering many important areas of research, and the organization plays a big role in the global financial community,” Becker said.
Becker’s research focuses on corporate finance, including topics such as credit markets, bank lending, restructuring, and credit ratings. He serves as a Department Editor of Management Science, is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). He previously held editorial roles at Review of Financial Studies and Financial Management, and has served on the board of the Swedish National Debt Office.
