SNS/SHoF Finance panel: Sustainable finance in Europe

At the Finance Panel: Christian Thimann, special adviser to the EU Commission, Chairman of the EU Commission High Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance.

The High Level Expert Group last year presented a report with strategic recommendations for a financial system that supports sustainable investments. The aim was also to identify the steps that financial institutions and supervisors should take to protect the stability of the financial system from risks related to the environment. The European Commission has recently adopted its action plan for sustainable finance on the basis of these recommendations. Christian Thimann was discussing what has been achieved so far and what remains.

The Finance Panel is a meeting forum for the financial sector, hosted by SNS and the Swedish House of Finance.

Christian Thimann is CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Athora Deutschland Group and is responsible for Athora’s overall activities in Germany.

Christian was until last year Chairman of the EU High-level Group on Sustainable Finance and is a special adviser to the European Commission on financial regulation.

Prior to Athora, Christian was Group Head of Strategy at AXA Group in Paris and a Member of the Group Executive Committee where he coordinated AXA’s global strategy in life insurance, general insurance and asset management. Christian has also worked at the European Central Bank, most recently as Director General.
