Call for papers: Workshop: Household Debt Relief, New data, Micro-Macro Perspectives

feb. 20, 2024

In light of the expanding availability of credit products, the rising number of households facing financial distress, and the considerable international disparities in household debt relief programs, the Swedish House of Finance is organizing a one-day Household Finance Workshop titled "Debt Relief: New Data, Micro-Macro Perspectives."

Submissions are no longer accepted because the deadline has passed.

The workshop aims to harness economic insights that delve into the effects and underlying mechanisms of over-indebtedness and debt relief strategies, taking into account their institutional contexts. It will facilitate discussions on the impact of these elements on household behavior and examine their wider consequences for credit and labor markets, along with overall welfare.

The workshop will feature the keynote of two renowned scholars who will provide a different perspective on the topic: Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham (Yale School of Management) and Sasha Indarte (Wharton Finance -University of Pennsylvania).

The event will take place at the Swedish House of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics on September 24, 2024.

TOPICS: We expect to have a mix of scholars from economics, finance and behavioral economics, and are seeking high-quality submissions employing new data, diverse empirical and theoretical perspectives and methods. In particular, we welcome submissions that deal with these topics:

  1. Macro Micro impact of different types of Debt Relief programs
  2. The real effects of over indebtedness / debt relief programs
  3. Strategic decision-making of debtors, creditors
  4. Causes and consequences of debt default
  5. Field/lab experiments in debt relief, credit supply

Please contact us if you have any further queries about the event. We look forward to meeting you next fall!
