Call for papers: Harnessing Finance for Climate

nov. 17, 2022

We invite submissions of papers on issues relating to climate finance for a conference in Stockholm, on May 23, 2023. Submission deadline: January 15, 2023.

Submissions are no longer accepted because the deadline has passed.

Large amounts of investments in implementing carbon-neutral technologies, and in developing new technologies, are required to protect Earth's climate. This investment challenge will involve industry, the financial sector and public policy. Both European and North American policy makers are exploring avenues for accelerating climate action through public-private partnerships, taxes and subsidies, investment in research and technology development, and other policy tools.  Banks, asset managers, other financial institutions, and owners of capital have made large investment commitments to supporting the transition to a net zero consistent economy.

The conference aims to examine the possible implications of these developments. We solicit paper submissions on related topics, such as (but not limited to):

  • How can the financial system be harnessed as a tool in addressing climate change?
  • How do policy options such as taxes, capital requirements, and subsidies factor into the mobilization of climate-aligned investment and compare in their impact?
  • Are there innovations in financial tools or structures that facilitate climate-aligned investment?
  • Which holders of capital can best take advantage of climate investment opportunities?
  • What reporting, certification, and evaluation systems are required for effective climate finance, and for measuring performance on net zero or other commitments?
  • What is the political economy of climate finance?
  • What hinders or predicts financial institutions mobilizing investment for net zero projects, either with their existing operating companies or with new projects?
  • What is the role of and appropriate use of new markets for carbon credits or other such climate platforms?
