What a Digital Euro and Stablecoins Could Mean for Sweden
The international payments landscape is undergoing profound change. Digitalization is enabling faster, cheaper, and borderless payments. As a result, interest in stablecoins is growing rapidly, and within the euro area, preparations are underway for the introduction of a digital euro.
What will these developments mean for the Swedish payments market? And how is Sveriges Riksbank responding to the emerging challenges?
Aino Bunge, First Deputy Governor of the Riksbank, will open the seminar with an up-to-date overview of recent developments and the Riksbank’s ongoing work in this area. The address will be delivered in Swedish.
Adrien d’Avernas, Associate Professor at the Swedish House of Finance and the Stockholm School of Economics, will continue the discussion by explaining how stablecoins operate in practice and commenting on the implications of the proposed U.S. Stablecoin Bill and its potential effects for Europe.
The seminar is jointly organized by the Riksbank, the Swedish House of Finance, and SNS.
The discussion will be held in Swedish and English and moderated by Pehr Wissén, Swedish House of Finance.
