Summer Internship Program 2025

Our 2025 Summer Internship Program, running from early July to the end of August, is specifically designed for skilled and motivated graduate students. As an intern at the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF), you will contribute to the development of the Nordic Compass research tool, gaining invaluable experience working with ESG data metrics. This seven-week program is fully remote, offering you the flexibility to enjoy your summer while maintaining a productive work-life balance. Our team will coordinate weekly via Zoom and Slack, ensuring seamless collaboration. Data Analyst Wanted

We’re looking for someone with a keen eye for detail and some experience working with data in Python to support projects involving information extraction from PDF documents, particularly financial reports. The role involves working with tools and libraries to pull out key content from complex PDFs and help organize it in a usable way. Experience with Python-based PDF tools (like PyPDF2 or pdfplumber), regular expressions, or OCR is helpful, but not strictly required. Tasks and responsibilities may shift depending on project needs, so adaptability and a willingness to learn are highly valued.

Projects and tasks

Interns will engage in research of a pre-selected group of publicly traded Nordic companies, enhancing and updating our ESG database. The team will handle data collection for over 600 companies across diverse industries. This task will enable interns to sharpen finance and accounting skills, acquire insights into contemporary ESG evaluation techniques and green disclosure, and develop independent thinking about ESG investments. All data collection processes will adhere to strict protocols as outlined in our collection manual and data definitions. Interns will receive guidance from experienced alumni and robust support from the leadership team of the Nordic Compass Summer Internship Program, ensuring a productive and educational experience.

For the 10th consecutive year, the Summer Internship Program is hosted by the Swedish House of Finance. The program will continue to be remote this year.

Introduction

The Swedish House of Finance (SHoF) at the Stockholm School of Economics is Sweden´s national research center in financial economics. It provides the infrastructure to enable financial research and development of highest quality. The center serves as an independent platform where academia, private and public financial sector can exchange knowledge, foster new ideas and gain access to a global network of the most prominent researchers in finance.

Nordic Compass

The Nordic Compass research tool empowers researchers to analyze the medium- and long-term value creation potential of publicly-traded Nordic companies. It employs a proprietary framework developed to identify opportunities and risks, to assess the sustainable business performance capabilities for hundreds of companies.

SHoF acquired the Nordic Compass database in 2019 from Resility AB, a Stockholm-based company that focuses on sustainability consulting and corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) research. The Nordic Compass provides key financial and sustainability metrics, derived from approximatley 100 data points, as well as a company summary and detailed description of material focus areas.
