Giancarlo Spagnolo earned his Ph.D. in Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics in 1999. He spent then four years at the Department of Economics of the University of Mannheim as an Assistant Professor, and one year as Senior Economist at the Research Division of the Sveriges Riksbank. Since 2003 he is leading the Research Unit of the Italian Public Procurement Agency, and in September 2004 he received the habilitation as Associate Professor (docent) from the Department of Economics of the Stockholm School of Economics.
His research interests include theoretical industrial organization, corporate finance, banking, game, contract, and auction theory. He is probably best known for his work on the economics of competition law and policy, in particular on leniency programs, and will pursue further this line of research in the next three years at the Department under a research grant from Konkurrenseverket.
