Stephen Kotkin Discusses the Role of Middle Powers in a Changing International Order

On June 10, the Center for Statecraft and Strategic Communication (CSSC) at the Stockholm School of Economics and the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy welcomed historian Stephen Kotkin for a lunch seminar in Stockholm.

Held at the Army Museum, the event brought together participants for a lecture and discussion on Middle Power Horizontalism: Can They Rebalance the United States?

Kotkin is the Kleinheinz Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution and professor of history and international affairs emeritus at Princeton University. His research and public engagement focus on Russia, authoritarianism, geopolitics, and great-power competition.

Following opening remarks by Kotkin, participants were invited to take part in a moderated discussion led by Dr. Carl Ritter. The event was designed as an interactive forum for examining questions related to international affairs and the role of middle powers in a changing global landscape.

The seminar was organized by the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy together with the Center for Statecraft and Strategic Communication (CSSC) at the Stockholm School of Economics.
