Higher Seminar in Statecraft and Strategic Communication | Karl Lallerstedt

Abstract: This seminar focuses on hybrid threats in the economic domain, with particular attention to risks to market stability. At a meta-level, it explores different categories of threats, the actors behind them, and the types of economic targets that may be leveraged to achieve disruptive effects. Given that actions in the “real” world are often combined with disinformation and strategic communication to amplify impact, the seminar will also engage with the communication perspective. This dimension is an emerging area of interest for the speaker and will be discussed with participants as a possible analytical extension, including its relevance for future research and ongoing working paper development.
Bio: Karl Lallerstedt is Senior Analyst at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE), where he is responsible for the Economic Security portfolio. He has previously worked at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, and a Fortune Global 500 company, where he served as Communications and Corporate Affairs Director for the Nordic markets.
