Managing Organizational Transformation
  1. To thrive in an increasingly complex world, retail organizations need to become more transformative. Transformative organizations constantly (re-)align their purpose and strategy with their structure, culture, and leadership, to ensure that the speed of change internally is (at least) as fast as changes in the external environment.

  2. To succeed retail organizations also must pay close attention to the occupational identity and culture among its leaders and employees, as these can be strong levers for driving – or stalling – transformation.

  3. To enable frontline workers to translate and enact strategy in their everyday work investments in continuous competence development are needed. Competence development in digitalization and sustainability is particularly important, as it enables frontline workers to use digital tools to improve their everyday work, and see how their actions and prioritizations contribute to sustainability goals.
