Describe your role and what it is that you do overall and on a day-to-day basis:
Founder and CEO of REBELBIRDZ, Founder & Creative Director, Victoria Senkpiel Shoes.
I am a classical ballet dancer, turned investment banker, turned marketer, turned shoe designer and beauty tech entrepreneur.
What interested you about the field you are currently in?
I love challenging new ways of marketing and building conceptually new marketing platforms for consumer products. I have a great academic base from my time at Stockholm School of Economics, and for the last 10 years I have been working on perfecting my marketing skills in real life and building new marketing models based on trends and technology to drive future change.
Why did you choose to study your subject area at SSE?
I had spent 2 years working in investment banking at JPMorgan in London. I wanted to change my direction from finance to marketing and it was right at the time, in 2009, when SSE was launching the new Master’s Program - Marketing and Media Management. It sounded like a fun and relevant direction to go! So I applied, was accepted and went:) I've never regretted it!
How did your time/education at SSE help guide you to the career journey you have embarked on?
It has been a foundational structure to my career path. The Masters program awakened my interest, passion and academic knowledge for marketing. It made me understand that my skills and passion reside in strategic marketing, so I could already have a good understanding for which direction I wanted to take in my marketing career, even prior to applying for jobs post-studies. This has been invaluable! I could pin-point my direction without trial and error and get the job direction right.
What path did you take from graduation to where you are now?
From SSE to L’Oréal as a Product Manager to Co-Founder and Managing Director for the beauty box subscription service GLOSSYBOX in the Nordics, to Founder of my own shoe label and new beauty platform Rebelbirdz (today).
Following your time studying and living in Stockholm, do you have any words of wisdom or advice you would like to share with our current students?
Always listen to your own path, but respect that moving ahead in your professional career does not happen overnight. Keep your head down and work until you are proven, then work even harder to succeed to your fullest potential.
