What made you sign up as a mentor in the first place?

When I was still a Master student at SSE, I got the chance to participate in the first wave of the mentorship program, which helped me a lot when I was applying for jobs and figuring out what could happen after graduation. During the program, I got career advice, practised interviews and got personal tips about how to manage and make life less stressful. So when I joined the “workforce”, I think it’s an excellent opportunity for me to pay back the favour and help our next generation who are now going through the same tough period as I did years ago, share my experience and enable them to find their best-fit way forward

What is the best part about mentoring a student?

Every individual is different. Being part of the mentorship program enables me to meet students from all walks of life, their experience, expectations and needs are all unique. Meeting them as unique individuals, exchange thoughts and being able to help each of them prepare for their future is quite rewarding.

What advice would you give to future mentors?

Recognize the difference between each student you meet. There is no silver bullet that fits all, and one needs to understand their background, align on the expectations students have about the mentorship program, so we can best facilitate the learning and knowledge sharing.
